How to help us

We have several ways that you can support this run and help us serve our local communities! Attending the ride and bringing toys and food is one of those ways, but you can also deliver toys and food to locations that are collecting them. There are several locations with donation boxes for us, including stores, bars, and politicians. We’ve been posting these locations on our Facebook page, so feel free to check our page to see where you can donate your toys and food.

And speaking of donations, you can also donate to the Toy Run financially. Using this link, you can go to our Square site and choose the amount of money you would like to donate to help us fund our run:

We also need volunteers to handle the Toy Run, including setup, teardown, traffic, and other responsibilities. If you can help us out, check out our volunteer page below and make sure to contact us about how you want to help!

We hope that you’ll make it to our run and give back to our local communities!

Upcoming event: DuKane ABATE Candidate Forum

Death Notification: Robb “Thunder” Zander

With great sorrow we advise you that we lost Robb “Thunder” Zander on the morning of Wednesday June 26th, to a heart attack. Even though Robb and Kathy are new DuKane members, they have been in our circle for a long time. Having lost their son John to fentanyl poisoning, Robb and Kathy have been dedicated to making their community safer from the fentanyl crisis with their annual Ride for John and their organization My Child’s Life Matters.

How can we help?

There will be celebration of life for Thunder on July 14th. We hope to see you there to honor our fallen brother. The details are as follows:

Source: My Child’s Life Matters

A Go Fund Me has been started to assist Kathy at this time. You can reach it with the link below to help Kathy with funeral expenses and other financial concerns.

In addition, This Saturday, July 6, at Warehouse Church in Aurora at 7:00pm is a concert to raise money for our fallen brother Thunder. Come out to hear some great music by Nick Olson and to help our sister Kathy through this difficult time.

Upcoming Event: Axe Throwing w/ Open Roads

This spring, DuKane ABATE is adding something new to the event schedule: axe thowing! DuKane will be collaborating with Open Roads ABATE in this event, and members of both chapters will vie for the title of Axe Throwing Champs.

We’ll be coming together at Bull & Bear Axe Throwing in Montgomery at 12:45 pm on March 23. Axe throwing will cost $29.99 per person. We’ll also be having a late lunch afterwards at Poor Boy’s Pub.

Please call Kevin on (815) 545-6114 before March 18 to reserve a spot. We must have a number of participants by this date.

Call to Action: Oppose IL Helmet Mandates!

Illinois is facing the first mandatory helmet bill in over a decade! The bill, created by State Representative Daniel Didech, is HB5620. Below is an excerpt (the language added by the bill is underlined):

“The operator of a motorcycle, motor driven cycle, or
moped and every passenger thereon shall be protected by a motorcycle helmet and glasses, goggles, or a transparent shield.”

If Representative Didech gets his way, riders will lose the freedom to decide when it comes to safety gear. If you oppose riders losing this freedom, please head over to abate-il.org/helmet to learn about filing slips to oppose this bill.

You can also help us with our efforts to preserve motorcycle rights by becoming an ABATE member.
